ABOUT HENRY KAPONO'S ARTIST 2 ARTIST SERIES
The launch of this new format will continue to feature multiple award-winning and GRAMMY® nominee, Henry Kapono, who will introduce a new opening segment that will spotlight many of Hawai`i’s diverse and talented musical entertainers, followed by some of Hawai`i’s most iconic musicians. Henry will “jam” and “talk story” one-on-one with each artist, “deconstructing” their career (as only one artist to another can do) to give the audience insight to the spirit and aspirations of the person/people behind the music.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Best known for his work in the musical group Olomana, Jerry Santos has maintained an influential presence on the Hawaii music scene for over four decades. Born and raised on the windward side of O‘ahu and a graduate of The Kamehameha Schools, Jerry established himself early on as one of Hawai‘i’s most prolific song writers. As a founding member and lead singer of the legendary group, Olomana, Jerry helped to create a unique and easily recognizable musical style, blending Hawaiian music with contemporary rhythms. Jerry has performed all over the world and his work has been recognized by the Hawai‘i musical community with numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards including the prestigious, Moe Keale “Aloha Is” award for his charitable work in the community. Additionally, the Council of Hawaiian Civic Clubs recognized him for his commitment to Hawaiian Culture through music. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts and has been inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame. Whether performing as a soloist, or with his group Olomana, Jerry is firmly rooted as one of Hawaii’s most beloved and iconic recording artists who generates music from the heart with Aloha!
Kamuela Kimokeo started playing music professionally with his Dad in Waikiki at the age of 14 and mentored by some of Hawaii's great musicians. He has toured both nationally and internationally to share Hawaiian music with the likes of; Grammy Nominee, Amy Hanaiali'i, Raiatea Helm, and of course Hawaiian music Hall of Famer, Jerry Santos. His music allowed him to play for the President of Tahiti and at Barack Obama's Inaugural Ball in Washington DC. As a recording artist he played an original composition on the Grammy Nominated and Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winning guitar album, Slack Key Kings Vol. II. He is currently a member of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winning group Hi‘ikua and has recorded with Napua Greig, Raiatea Helm, Natalie Ai Kamau‘u, and Pilioha.
