This 2021 special edition is in partnership with the Henry Kapono Foundation and dedicated to helping get Hawai`i’s musicians back to work and on stage to do what they love most...perform. May 18th features the incomparable Hawaiian musical group, The Mākaha Sons.

The launch of this new format will continue to feature multiple award-winning and GRAMMY® nominee, Henry Kapono, who will introduce a new opening segment that will spotlight many of Hawai`i’s diverse and talented musical entertainers, followed by some of Hawai`i’s most iconic musicians. Henry will “jam” and “talk story” one-on-one with each artist, “deconstructing” their career (as only one artist to another can do) to give the audience insight to the spirit and aspirations of the person/people behind the music.

The Mākaha Sons are considered to be one of Hawai‘i’s premier, musical Hawaiian groups. For over 40 years, The Mākaha Sons continue to perpetuate traditional Hawaiian music in Hawai‘i and throughout the world. Their incomparable vocal arrangements and delightful stage presence is filled with comical antics that have won the hearts of thousands of fans worldwide. Their distinct sound, which is full and rich, blends harmonies that only they can create. Their legacy persists with founding member and front-man, Jerome Koko on vocals and 12-string guitar, Kimo Artis on vocals and electric bass, and Hanale Kaʻanapu on vocals and 6-string guitar. This extremely talented trio creates the magic of their iconic sound with syrupy, boldness of harmonies, melodic intricacies of tones, and breathtakingly, memorable songs. When Kalihi grown musician Mike Tulba takes the stage, it’s apparent that a knack for performing runs in the family as he is the youngest brother of Hawaiʻi comedian Augie T. Mike has been playing his rendition of local contemporary music since 2008. Influenced by artists from Ernie Cruz Jr to Amos Lee his sound speaks to fans of multiple genres. His first album, entitled Mike Tulba which produced two hits “Absolutely You” and “Amazing.” Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Dave Tucciarone said, “Mike Tulba gives a fresh perspective on the next generation of local contemporary music with this album. His smooth vocals and catchy melodies give every track a unique feel that’s easy to sit back and enjoy.” With his sophomore album, Here I Am, Mike is set to open for local legendary artists including Weldon Kekauoha, Makaha Sons, and Henry Kapono.

Native Hawaiian and GRAMMY® nominated, Henry Kapono is a multiple award-winning vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and composer.
